Case study : redesign PrimaKu apps

Well, this redesign idea is not from my willing. It’s a challenge from Wahyuni Febriani. Here’s her tweet.

and I’m like “hmm, interesting challenge. why not?”

Before we talk about the process, PrimaKu is a digital application for parents supported by the Indonesian Pediatric Association to build a healthy generation in Indonesia. In a nutshell, an apps to monitor your kids, a digital alternative of KMS(Kartu Menuju Sehat) book.

Challenge

At first the challenge is about redesign the height & weight input page, but later on, I found out the process flow isn’t like that (user/mom input the data by herself). And also, the kids development dashboard isn’t give enough insight.

So, I change the objective into

• redefine the kids development data input process flow
• redesign the kids development dashboard to give more insightful information

So, here you go, my redesign process of PrimaKu apps, especially on kids development dashboard.

Empathize

First of all, I don’t even know about kids development. Zero knowledge. So, I start to understand the context & then discover the problem. I do a two things; desk-research about kids development & interview my beloved mom.

Desk Research

From the desk research, I found a minister of health regulations document about pediatric anthropometric standards. In this document, I found the standard number of each kids development(like ideal body height/length, weight, etc)

Interview

The nearest and possible person to interview with about this is my beloved mom. She already experienced this for 3 times. From this interview, I discover the real-world process flow. At the time, she has a KMS book for monitoring her kids development. I found that my mom doesn’t input the monitoring book by herself, but by her midwife or doctor. She only bring her son for check-up and everything have been handled by the midwife.

Ideate

After I have enough knowledge & get the context about the app, I start to ideate an alternative kids development dashboard design.

In this design, I try to rearrange the information hierarchy and give the users an insightful information about current kids condition and growth number from previous month.

The process flow of data input changed from self-input to midwife-only. Users (in this case (mostly) moms) go to midwife and give a QR code to scan and automatically, in midwife app side showing input page.

I cut some unnecessary stuff like father/moms height & weight data and input date from input form (input date turn into the month of input).

Well, that’s all folks. At the end, I won this challenge and get some GoPay to buy some martabak lol. I’m sorry if I’m not deliver this process well, I open to discuss and critics, especially on how I deliver this story.
